European Parliamentary Staffers Visit Taiwan People’s Party for In-Depth Dialogue

2025/07/10

This week, the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) was honored to host a delegation of parliamentary staffers from across Europe. Secretary-General Vincent Chou, together with the TPP’s Department of Foreign Affairs, engaged in a substantive exchange with the visiting group, sharing the party’s vision and approach to policy and governance.

Secretary-General Chou began by outlining the TPP’s core values—rationality, pragmatism, and scientific policymaking. Using concrete examples from former Chairman Ko Wen-je’s tenure as Mayor of Taipei, he highlighted how policies such as affordable housing, elderly and childcare support, pedestrian rights, and traffic reforms improved the daily lives of citizens and demonstrated how rational governance can lead to meaningful change.

Secretary-General Chou also emphasized the party’s legislative priorities, including efforts by Caucus Leader Huang Kuo-chang to promote the reformation of Legislative Yuan, live broadcasts of court proceedings, and Public Interest Whistleblower Protection Act—key initiatives that reflect the TPP’s commitment to deepening democracy and fostering institutional innovation.

On the critical issue of Taiwan’s energy transition, Secretary-General Chou stressed that Taiwan must move beyond ideological battles. He reiterated the TPP’s position of listening to experts and responding to reality, stating that the party advocates for a balanced approach—“Go Green with Nuclear”—as the most pragmatic and responsible path forward for the nation at this stage.

Secretary-General Chou expressed hope that this exchange would help international partners gain a deeper, more authentic understanding of Taiwan, and that they would carry this perspective with them as a reflection of the diverse voices within Taiwanese society.

The TPP values dialogue and cooperation with our European partners, and will continue to foster exchanges that strengthen democratic values and shared understanding.
