Expanding Global Outreach: Welcoming Thailand's Chulalongkorn University

2024/03/22

Today, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan People's Party hosted an engaging dialogue with esteemed faculties and students from Thailand's Chulalongkorn University, renowned for its academic excellence. The conversation revolved around the development of political parties, human rights advocacy, and global issues. As a gesture of gastro-diplomacy, we shared a savoring aspect of Taiwanese culture that featured Taiwan's most popular drink, bubble tea.

The visit by the master's students from the faculty of political science at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand's leading academic institution, provided a platform for mutual learning and exchange. The delegates lauded TPP for its impressive growth and adeptness in leveraging social media platforms for political outreach. A notable comparison was drawn with Thailand's Move Forward Party, which mirrors TPP in its appeal to the youth demographic and proficiency in social media utilization, having achieved considerable success in the 2023 Thai elections.

In an enriching exchange, TPP elucidated its dedication to human rights issues, highlighting initiatives such as the advocacy for surrogacy laws and the protection of new residents' rights. TPP legislator Jenny Mai, a new resident, exemplifies the party's commitment to building an inclusive and thriving society in Taiwan.

The meeting, lasting an hour, was marked by vibrant and insightful discussions. TPP was particularly interested in understanding the perspectives of Thai youth on various societal issues. It was noted that, similar to their Taiwanese counterparts, young Thai people aspire to advancements in areas such as LGBTQ+ rights, and express a fervent desire for a political landscape free from corruption.

This fruitful meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts and a hopeful anticipation of future engagements in Thailand, fostering continued dialogue and cooperation.
