The Chairman of Taiwan People's Party (TPP), Ko Wen-je, along with the Foreign Affairs Department of TPP, warmly welcomed a delegation from the United States Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on April 25. The high-level delegation included CSIS Senior Vice President Dr. Victor Cha, former U.S. Representatives Peter Roskam and Stephanie Murphy, CSIS Senior Advisor Christopher Johnstone, and former Deputy Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl.

The meeting, held at TPP headquarters in Taipei, was centered around critical discussions concerning the Taiwan Strait issues, legislative goals, and the future prospects of the Taiwan People's Party. The delegation engaged in a vibrant exchange of views, focusing on regional security, peace, and the challenges facing Taiwan and its democratic processes.

During the meeting, former Representative Stephanie Murphy raised questions about the identity and perceptions of Taiwanese youth in the face of increasing pressure from China. Chairman Ko highlighted that a majority of the young people in Taiwan identify themselves primarily as Taiwanese. He pointed out that the recurring military threats and coercive tactics from China have fostered a sense of alienation among the people of Taiwan towards China. "This sentiment of detachment due to China's military intimidation is an issue that the authorities in Beijing need to contemplate deeply," stated Chairman Ko.

The TPP values its engagement with global think tanks like CSIS and appreciates the opportunity to discuss international perceptions and solutions regarding the delicate balance of cross-strait relations. These discussions are crucial for understanding the broader geopolitical landscape and for the continued advocacy for Taiwan's sovereign rights and democratic values on the international stage.
